adidas Metro Sackpack Review

I have several different sackpacks from different companies and this one is probably the best of the lot. It's a little bit bigger than the others and can hold a decent amount of stuff. It has a flap which covers the top. The flap has a velcro strip to hold it in place, but the velcro is pretty flimsy and can easily come off. Still it's better than nothing. The flap also has a zippered pocket built into it. You can toss a cell phone or Ipod into it and not have to worry about digging to the bottom of the bag or opening the bag up to reach it. That's very convenient. It's fairly stylish without being either too plain or too gaudy and comes in several different color combinations to suit different tastes. The overall construction is decent. No better or worse than any of my other sackpacks. I use it primarily when I travel by bike, but it's also convenient when I just need to bring a bag of stuff with me. Open it up, toss everything in, cinch it up and off I go.

Update 11/15/08
After a couple more months of use, I am disappointed to say that the bag is starting to fall apart rather quickly. There are a lot of stray threads starting to appear, and the little black rubber attachment on the flap (above the Adidas logo) has almost completely pulled away. Normally a Jugs net retails for $150, but this inexpensive net allows the players to use jugs small balls (Whiffle/practice golf balls) to get lots of hitting reps in without having to chase them. Beware, the net is only made for small/Whiffle balls, it cannot be used with a ball with any weight, even Lite Flite balls, when hit into the Small Ball net knock it over and wear it out. My one complaint so far is that with it being so light, the net does not do well in windy conditions, even light breezes bend it over. I would also like to see the net with two more stake straps to keep it more stable. It only tooses softballs about 30" so I had to modify the mechine (by adding a second spring) to get it to toss softballs to the 120" I was looking for... it was easy to modify by removing the cover and replacing the two spring bolts with longer ones and then adding a spring... all parts where available at the local hardware store (note the upper bolt is metric and lower is standers). The modifcation works great but you can tell it puts a strain on the motor and battery... time will tell how long it will last... next I will replace the motor... good luck :)

I got this for counting Mantra during public commutes. First day, I did 393 or something, but when I pulled it out the next day it was on ZERO again and it was beeping. So, I had to turn off the beeping by holding both top buttons for 3 seconds or so. This day, I counted 450. I made extra sure it was not just my imagination when I locked it this time. It was definitely locked. Still, the next time I pulled it out, it was on ZERO again and it was beeping.

Hmmm. I read the directions thoroughly and there is no mention of automatically defaulting to ZERO after a certain number of hours or anything. So, I tried some experiments. I locked it and then tried to reset it by holding the reset button for 3+ seconds. That didn't work (good, because it shouldn't! "Lock" is intended to prevent accidental reset). I shook it. I tapped it lightly. I couldn't get it to reset while in lock mode.

Very strange.

Then, yesterday, as I was walking down some stairs at work, I heard a beep from my coat pocket. I pulled it out and, sure enough, it had reset! I had caught it in the act. There was nothing else in my pocket and it was not bumped. It is a loose pocket and the buttons are recessed, so definitely nothing was pushing on the lock button for 3+ seconds and then the reset button for 3+ seconds in order to accidentally unlock it.

It's just defective. Plain and simple.

Besides, if you accidentally DID reset it, which is impossible in this case, it wouldn't turn the beeping back on. I've hit reset on purpose to test it and the beep does not come back on; it just resets to ZERO.

So... I give it 2 stars because I don't think it will default to zero while it is actually in use. It seems to count pretty well.
