As much as I've loved my old Chucks, these are now replacing them as my go-to, catch-all casual footwear for function, comfort, and style.
These slimmer Chucks are definitely a streamlined version compared to the bulkiness of the classic model and are superior among weight, flexibility, and ground-feel. However they can still feel a bit restricting with a slight heel lift - at times making the heel feel like it wants to come out of the shoe - and a somewhat narrow toe-box. Both concerns were quickly remedied by removing the in-sole. Though they are perfectly fine without any in-soles, I replaced them with Pedag Angora Thin Flat Insoles and they are uber-comfortable - almost like walking in slippers. These shoes have zero arch support - with or without in-soles - but I view that as an asset. The less support a shoe provides the more your feet will strengthen themselves to compensate. I've put a fair number of miles on these shoes in the short time I've had them (a few weeks) and there are no detectable signs of breakdown. These have been a real pleasure for both traveling and relaxing.
The Converse Chuck Taylor All Star Slim Ox has everything I love in good footwear. They are low-profile, minimalist, lightweight, flexible, and unstructured; all at an affordable price.
